Where our listings come from

What people make. Events, trips, Spaces, posts and photos created by people on Joinue belong to them, and our Terms and Privacy Policy cover them.

What we compile. Venues, public shows, and the recurring nights around town (trivia, karaoke, open mics, happy hours) are put together by Joinue so there is something to discover from the first day you open the app. The rest of this page is about that catalog.

• Venues are compiled by Joinue from public information: the place’s own website and social pages, and public maps. A venue’s name, address and what kind of place it is are facts anyone can look up.
• Concerts, shows and games come from Ticketmaster and from the public calendars venues publish on their own websites. Where tickets are sold elsewhere, we link you there to buy them.
• Recurring nights like trivia, karaoke and open mics are researched by hand, from the host who runs the night or the venue that holds it.
• Map positions come from OpenStreetMap (© OpenStreetMap contributors) and Mapbox, which also power place search and the maps you see.
• Photos of a venue come from the venue itself, or are openly licensed and credited on the page where their license asks for it.

We collect individual facts, such as a venue’s address or the night and time a weekly event runs, each one from the party with authority over it, and we check them against independent sources.

We never copy somebody else’s compilation. If another site has put together its own list of the best places in town, that list is their work, and we don’t take it. A host publishes their schedule so people show up; a curated list is somebody’s product.

Some of this is collected automatically. We read the public schedule pages and calendars that venues and hosts publish so people can find them, and we do it politely: we say who we are, we respect rate limits, and we fetch only what answers the question.

• Any source whose terms forbid what we would be doing, whatever its robots.txt says.
• Anything behind a login, a paywall or a captcha.
• Working around a block. If a site turns us away, that is a no, and we look for the fact somewhere it is offered.
• Another site's curated list, taken as a list.
• Personal information about anyone. The catalog is about places and public events.

We have turned down sources for these reasons, and we will again. Saying no is part of how this works.

Listings go stale: a bar changes its trivia night, a venue closes, an address is wrong. Every venue, show and recurring night on Joinue has a way to tell us (look for the flag on its page), and we review every report.
