I'm Marc, and that's Indy. Joinue started as a selfish little wish in Boston: one list of every comedy open mic in town, so I could reliably go bomb for five minutes any night. No such list existed. Your best shot was the one community elder who kept a handwritten copy.
In 2022 we moved to Tucson, and the same problem came with us. Trivia, karaoke, live music, all scattered across a dozen sites that were half out of date. Making plans with new friends shouldn't take a research project. Indy just wanted to sing "Who Let the Dogs Out" somewhere nearby.
Before Tucson, I'd spent years in social media analytics, on the sales side, watching brands mine public posts to figure out what people wanted. Some of it was genuinely clever. But it made plain that these free platforms were quietly profiling people to sell to advertisers, and the users got nothing back but a product that kept getting worse.
So I built the opposite. Joinue helps you find something to do and get your people there, then leaves you to it. If you ever feel like the product instead of the customer, I've done something wrong. Indy supervised the entire build, contributed nothing, and remains very proud.
Joinue runs on donations from the people who use it, which is why nobody upstairs is asking me to squeeze you. Running it does cost money, so if enough people show up I'll have to work out how it pays for itself. Whatever that turns out to be, it won't be excessive ads or profiling you.
Social media should help you live your life, not consume it.
